Leo en The Inquirer ES, que la Fundación de Software Libre pretende no dejar que Novell siga distribuyendo su versión de Linux debido a las grandes críticas que surgieron a raíz de su comentado convenio con Microsoft.
¿La razón?
“La comunidad quiere hacer todo lo que pueda para interferir en este acuerdo y acuerdos similares. Tenemos muchas razones para estar preocupados de que este sea el comienzo de una importante agresión de patentes por parte de Microsoft”, explica Eben Moglen, consejero general de la Fundación.
Parece que alguien tiene miedo de ser demandado por patentes.

Quiere esto decir, que Novell, mientras libere su distribución de Linux, no está infringiendo ninguna clausula. Y que la noticia de que se está buscando que Novell cese su distribución de Linux es algo falsa. Sin embargo, en la GPLv3, se buscará eliminar la posibilidad de este tipo de acuerdos que puedan poner en riesgo a la comunidad Linux.
La historia ha sido malversada por el reportedo de Reuters. Según afirma Eben Moglen, miembro de la FSF, quien fue entrevistada, el reportero le preguntó si era cierto que la comunidad de Software Libre quiere evitar que Novell siga distribuyendo Linux. A esto, ella respondió: Si, la FSF se opone al acuerdo y está pensando en qué hacer. Habrá un nuevo borrador de la GPLv3. Pero en ningún momento admitió que se quisiera evitar que Novell siguiera distribuyendo Linux.
The Reuters quote was: "The community of people wants to do anything they can to interfere with this deal and all deals like it. They have every reason to be deeply concerned that this is the beginning of a significant patent aggression by Microsoft."
"What he actually asked me," said Moglen in an email interview, "was 'Is it true that some members of the community want GPLv3 to keep Novell from distributing future versions of GPL'd software?' I said, 'Yes, the Free Software Foundation is opposed to the deal, and is thinking about what to do; there will be a new draft soon [of the GPLv3]" (GNU General Public License Version 3).
Therefore, "The actual quote he prints is entirely accurate, but his lede destroys the context and is making unnecessary waves."
